False Protection Poem by Professor Dr. Stanley Collymore

False Protection

I took my dreams and carefully wrapped
them up in cotton wool very much afraid to
expose them to the harsh realities of life. But
by doing so, while I doubtlessly protected
them and me from every semblance of
adverse scrutiny that I perceived then
might be in the offing, the virtual
world I’d effectively created
around me as a consequence
was anything but real, or
even conducive to the
betterment of my
life generally.
