Far From The City Poem by Marilyn Lott

Far From The City

Rating: 3.3

I travel those open country roads
As far from the city as I can go
Fields forever stretch out wide
And I try to take life mighty slow

This time of the year you can see
The green beasts workin’ those fields
I always enjoy the sounds and smells
As the harvest begins to build

Some bales are round and enormous
And others of a much smaller size
Stacked up in the fresh-mown fields
Always a pleasant sweet surprise

Big ‘ole country farm houses
Oh how I love their gracious look
Perhaps a river running through
Or a sweet-water trickling brook

Trees looming t’ward the sky
Farm animals of all kinds scattered
It’s where dreams are made
And very few are ever shattered

So someday, if you’re from the city
I hope you’ll take a chunk of time
Come visit us ‘old country folks
It’ll be the best visit you’ll ever find!
