Father Poem by Edward Schriner

Father

Through the times I've gotten to know you
I have held you always in great esteem
You have always been there for others in need
I feel privileged to have called you my friend

Since the day when we first primarily met
I have felt comfortable telling you what's on my mind
You never once tried to judge me wrongfully
In that, I know that you were my best ally

As I listened to you give me certain words of wisdom
I absorbed everything you would say and tell
You, to me, were a great man whom I admired
For you was one of the best teachers in my life

And when it seemed that my spirits were down
Your quirky smile and quips would make me laugh
Whenever I fell down, you would pick me up
You have always been a hero in my eyes

When I would become seemingly blue and needed cheering up
I could always count on you to perform the impossible
With your rapier wit and inspirational spirit
One could always say that you were most extraordinary

Throughout life, you had been there for others
Revealing what has always been right from wrong
Doing this, you are definitely one to be lauded upon high
For you was truly an ultimate role model among others

And when you put all these great qualities together
Blending them with simple love and trust
One gets a combination of many admirable things
When you observe how they are lined up

Friend
Ally
Teacher
Hero
Extraordinary
Role model
