Federal Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Federal

Federal

Each state has ruler
On its own
Seeming independent
If ruling system is
Federal government.

Dependent on body are fingers
They nag and complain, hear them
Bluish their skins, are turned pale.

'And again? '
They question:
'In the ice and minus? '

They are right
I feel them and agree
But I must…

We will work in open
Repairing scaffolds.

Twelve is said to be
Underneath the zero
'With wind-chill feels far more,
Big minus twenty four…'

And I wear no jacket
Simply some t-shirts.

Nose, ears are open
Feel Rudolf…

But being reindeer
Must go with the sleigh.

Must carry presents
For the banks
And my needs
Among them books and films
Expenses and the rent.
