Figures. Poem by guy lipmore

Figures.

Now year five,
Hundred and seventy five not alive.
This figure, we are told,
The 'dead' figure we are 'sold'.
Yes everyone an hero,
Every praise we bestow.
However there is another stat',
Continually an 'unknown' fact.
Hundreds wounded and maimed,
People and figures hardly named.
Too much an embarrassment,
The truth is 'inconvenient.'
Figures not revealed,
They remain concealed.
The true cost of the war,
And what it is for!
