Final Words Poem by Loraine Lotter

Final Words

Rating: 3.5

I can still hear the soft beat of the night.
the weight of the silence as we stood side by side,
the warmth of your hand as I tried to hold on,
I felt so fragile, but still played along.

And then you pulled away, saying goodbye,
watching you leave I felt broken inside.
I remember your wave as you drove down the street.
Living without you is too much for me.

So this is my final words now that you’re gone.
You broke my heart, so now, dear john,
how should I live without you?

Shattered and broken hearts cannot be fixed.
Innocence and cruelty does not mix.
But always, you’ll be the one that I miss.

I can still see the bouquet on my desk,
the roses you sent ‘cause you couldn’t care less,
the fight that soon followed when you gave them to me
and I didn’t accept because you weren’t sorry.

But then the next day, at 6: 48
You showed up early and took my breath away.
The smell of your skin now still hangs in the air.
Not one day goes by I don’t wish you were here.

So this is my final words now that you’re gone.
You broke my heart, so now, dear john,
how should I live without you?

Shattered and broken hearts cannot be fixed.
Innocence and cruelty does not mix.
But always, you’ll be the one that I miss,
despite all this…
