Finishing Last Poem by Randy McClave

Finishing Last

Good men do finish last
I've learned that from my own past,
I was ignored, tricked and disgraced
Then, I was replaced.
I met her and she was overlooked and neglected
She wasn't honored or respected,
She was physically and mentally abused
And she was used.
She was taken for granted and torn down
Her heart wore a frown,
She then decided she didn't deserve anything better
As was constantly told her.
Then her and I one day had met
I gave her a look of happiness and not regret,
Soon, to my joy we became a pair
God, I had believed answered my prayer.
I am a very good man
She then quickly noticed as my goodness began,
I never ever lied or tricked or cheated
And I never yelled or hit or mistreated.
She was use to being with bad men
Those who believed not in love, but only sin,
Who only cared about was themselves
And never no one else.
She didn't know how to accept the love that I gave
She didn't know how not to be treated as a slave,
And all from me that she received
She thought it was all an act to be deceived.
She was in a different state of mind
She was suspicious when I was being kind,
Sadly she seemed to be always carrying her bags
Then she started looking for red flags.
I gave her grace and also time
Even though I never committed a crime,
Never did I swear or cursed or even shout
But, she mentally checked out.
She wanted a relationship with me no more
As she had once a long time before,
She then began treating me like dirt
But, from her and her soul I refused to desert.
I was no more wanted
As I became depressed and hurt and daunted,
Because, of how bad men had treated her
And in her mind she knew where they still were.
Because of her past I was punished and penalized
I was used and hurt and chastised,
Because, in love I truly thought that I could and can
Because, I am a very good man.
