First Grief - For My Brother Bill Poem by Barry Middleton

First Grief - For My Brother Bill

I thought that I would die before
this darkness fell with utter grief.
For when a loved one starts to fade,
it is as if the stars have dimmed,
and night grows deeper than the grave.
So many memories endure,
the bittersweet of days gone by.
I must be thankful for the strength
that you were always there to give.
Perhaps there's time for recompense;
to sit in silent vigil here,
and put within these pensive lines
a blessing for eternity.
You light the way for me once more.
