First Love Poem by Bryan Taplits

First Love

A lesson learned, a page now turned-
The sands drop quick but firm,
All Wonders have released their awe
Emotions start to burn.
Breath surges forth a forthright plume
An angel mines her trove above
My lungs now pant; Relief is scant-
I guess this then is 'love.'
The silence peeks at upswept reefs
That never 'were' or 'was'
Reality shakes a wagging finger-
To warn me of this love.
But here I am on steady ground
And race to catch this wild wind
As time goes on, it swells its song-
And my 'love' has now been limned.
I shake my fists, I know the risks!
I refuse to buck or flee,
For 'love' has gripped me
in its grasp
As I reach for Immortality.
