First Moment Poem by Christopher Cofield

First Moment

From the first moment I saw your standing there, I knew I was in love. You were gorgeous! Your hair like a birds nest, wearing faded blue jeans, a dirty old torn T-shirt, red 'Chuck Taylor's' and thick black horn rimmed glasses…the most beautiful man in the world. As the song goes, you were makin' your list and checkin' it twice and I was dying to know if you were naughty or nice. In that next moment, you walked over to me and asked what time it was - I nearly passed out. You smiled politely and walked off. I couldn't believe it, you spoke to me and I was struck mute. But I followed you, because I was determined to have you in my life. I stopped, took a deep breath…you were gone. Gone out of my life - forever. I turned to leave and then there you were standing right in front of me. You said 'hi', a few other words, but all I understood from you was, in that first moment you saw me - and I didn't know. I understand now. In that instant you fell in love with me too. And I knew I would spend the rest of my life with you, from the first moment.
