Flapping Our Crippled Wings Poem by Danielle Shaw Cocking

Flapping Our Crippled Wings

Are we flapping our crippled wings, dreaming we can fly?
Are we looking down below us, wishing we could die?
Do we walk upon this earth, and think we rule it all?
Or hide in the background, waiting for the day we fall?
Do we put on an act, just to empress some guys?
Or be ourselves, but tell a few lies?
Do we hide behind a fringe, safe inside our head?
Not wanting to come out, but what do we dread?
Do we fear the world, and all around?
Taking small steps; not making a sound.
Are we pessimistic or optimistic, what do we decide?
Do they know about all those nights, we lay awake and cried?
Why do we stare into space, what do we think we’ll find?
Should we left alone, are we safe inside our minds?
Why when we feel depressed, we cut instead of speak?
Why with every teardrop, we wish to get more deep?
Why do people take there lives, and leave the rest in pain?
Who are they decide, whose normal and whose insane?
Are the people who ruin our lives, really wanting attention?
Do they just want someone to lead them in the right direction?
Or are they naturally cruel and mean, praying on those who don’t speak?
Do they just enjoy making others lives bleak?
Are we searching for lives answers, will we hit a dead end?
Can a broken heart really truly mend?
One day we will rise and float through the sky,
Are we flapping our crippled wings, dreaming we could fly?
