Flight Poem by Isabella Night

Flight

What does the mind do when it cannot feel?
It searches, walking around aimlessly.
It experiments, craving that high it once felt.
Lust, sex, passion, desire...
Impulse goes into hyperdrive.
Rational thought canceled out by 'fight-or-flight'.
Numbness clouds your mind,
Thickening through arteries as it travels into your veins.
Every nerve affected,
Beaten into submission.
Hands that were once capable of touch,
Feel nothing but dead weight.
The mind is not empty;
It is speeding, segueing from thought to thought with no sense of direction.
No sense of control...
What does the mind do when it cannot feel?
It flees.
