Flood Survivors Rebuild - Poem by Mark Heathcote

What happens when your house
Becomes a river boat?
A boat that neither swims
With the current or float.

House, that's a watershed
Watermark of pure dread.
How do you look ahead?
Heart wells with deep regret.

But somehow you'll find strength
Pull together, make amends.
Whatever catastrophe-
Brings, whatever portends.

Flood survivors rebuild
Stand shoulder to shoulder
Disasters internship
Makes them stand together
Soldier on.
