Flooded Dreams Poem by Jody L. Moody

Flooded Dreams

The grasp of understanding,
Is far beyond my reach,
The truth that burrows deep in my heart,
Is far more than I can teach.

Sleepless nights are so familiar,
Easier to stay awake it seems,
Than to close my tired eyes,
And have you flood my dreams.

God hasn't finished us,
There is a reason and a cause,
Even though your love for me,
Has been long before lost.

My dreams are so astonishingly vivid,
Just behind my closed eyes,
A simple daily reminder,
That I can't erase you from my life.

Our daughter is so precious,
A father I wish you would be,
She is the definition of pure beauty,
She is a part of you and me.

Maybe this is God's reason,
To hold you in my dreams,
Not the love deep in my heart,
But the child of our genes.

She was given to us for a reason,
Though we both question why,
It's a reason we cannot answer,
Through translation of truth or lies.

As each day passes by,
She wakes up a bigger child,
And as the mornings approach,
Its only me that greets her smile.

Tired an wiltered from flooded dreams,
With a kiss I begin her new day,
Trying to clear my thoughts of you,
I grab some toys for her to play.

Each morning starts out the same,
A constant regime it seems,
Your presence is with absence,
Except for in my dreams.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this for my youngest daughter's dad. he hasn't wanted to be with me since I was 3 months pregnant and he doesn't want anything to do with his daughter that the doctors said her couldn't have due to bladder cancer when he was younger but, he still is very much a part of my daily life... unfortuntely not like he should be, just as a father to his kid.
