My Spirit Is Free Poem by Jody L. Moody

My Spirit Is Free

I am still here,
Please do not mourn for me,
I am still here,
Though you cannot see.

I am right by your side,
Each night and day,
And within your heart,
I long to stay.

My body is gone,
Yet I am always near,
I am everything you feel,
See and hear.

My spirit if free,
Yet I will never depart,
Just as long as you keep me,
Alive in your heart.

I will never wander,
Out of your sight,
I am the brightest star,
That shines in the night.

I will never be,
Far beyond your reach,
I am the warm moist sand,
When you are out on the beach.

I am the colourful flower,
Of which you are so fond,
And the clear waters,
That be-stills in a pond.

I am the first bright blossom,
You will see in the spring,
And the first elegant rainbow,
That April will bring.

I am the first ray of light,
When the sun starts to shine,
Look deep and far above,
That face on the moon is mine.

I will whisper my answers,
Through the limbs of the trees,
And you will always feel my presence,
In the soft summer breeze.

I am the warm salty tears,
That flow when you weep,
And the beautiful dreams,
That come when you sleep.

I am the smile you see,
On each and every face,
I am the beauty of a song,
That is sung in praise.

I am just shortly beneath,
Every voice you may hear,
That will give you advice,
And lift you with cheer.

I am the whistling wind,
That will blow through you hair,
So just look for me,
Because I am everywhere.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem was originally writting to be read at my aunt's funeral in 1999. She died of ovarian cancer. Then 1 yr later I used it for her husband's (my uncle) funeral who died of brain cancer. Three years later I used it for my best friends cousins funeral who killed himself, as the years have been passing, It has kind of became this traditition to be read as a closing at funerals and gatherings to help those close to me or those i know mourn for lost loved ones. It had been passed down so many times I had to have it published in May of 2005 to copyright it as MY own that way i could safely continue to give it to or share it with others. To this day it is still being read at funerals and gatherings. It was most recently used for my step grandpa's passing last month.: -) Please do not take it upon yourself to use this poem at such functions without my permission. Thank you. it is solely here for you to read and enjoy.
