Flung Wide Open Poem by Mark Heathcote

Flung Wide Open

The wind threw aside the umbrellas.
Like a flag iris flower on a mast that mirrors the sky
Oh, what it is to be flung wide open
To dance and skate side to side
To be a bride on her wedding day amongst the blossoms.
Ready to risk the storms of life, the heartaches of love.
Or the carnival that leaves a trail of mud.
But wasn't it all somehow deliciously good?
With that feckless beauty, you came to love.
While you both fought to hold on to a shared umbrella.
