Football Sunday Poem by Daniel Miltz

Football Sunday

Football here; Sunday drumming, forthcoming
Woe' the snap, and the fans are a humming
Bluffing to the right, tail off, fading back
Excite in frenzy air... O' yak'ty-yak!
Uh-uh, snap! Side step. A big whack, smack, sack!

With plenty of roars and rah, rah, rah sounds
Bravo fans yelling 'n scream'ng like wolfhounds
The ground a rumbling, with brave cavaliers
With screech'ng hip-hip cheers, in all nearby ears
Missed field goal attempt. Away, gone, it veers!

Fall downs like missiles on grid-iron bounds
Among crashing bods: ka-bam, ka-boom, sounds!
Grass and lined field, helmets, muscle forearms
Pat on back, defiant glares, zone dance charms
Tough, proud, brave competitors with cross arms

Yes, this football and how it is a show
Whence the ball to throw, hustle past the goal
In battalion, they in the battlefield
We protect. We receive. Open downfield
Hail Mary! Here we go, out on our shield
