As a child, my footprints were small,
Leaving tiny, soft prints in the snow.
Occasionally, they would be joined
By the larger prints of my parents,
And life went on.
As I got older, my footprints got larger,
Leaving heavier, deeper prints in the snow.
Occasionally, they would be joined
By the same size prints of my friends,
And life went on.
Recently, my footprints have stopped growing,
Leaving the same size prints in the snow.
They were slow, and all alone,
For there was no one to walk with,
And life went on.
Now, my footprints are alive,
Leaving light and easy prints in the snow.
They are often joined
By footprints of love and caring,
And life goes on.
Together, our footprints travel on,
Leaving prints, side by side, in the snow.
They are joined together
By love, friendship, and happiness,
And together, our lives go on.

I remember my Daddy singing this song when I was maybe 4-5yrs old. I asked my daddy what it meant. He said he had heard that a little girl who was very sick & she got out of her home & somehow got lost. She was found four days later. The man who found her said he traced her little footprints in the snow. That’s how the song got it’s name. Daddy said he did not know if it was true or not.
