For I Love Them To Death

Rating: 3.5

Why don't I have a child
or children so to speak
for I love them to death
and I surely am not weak..

Why don't I grow up
I am still in buttercup
and I'm way to shy
…............Hi.

I do not have a girlfriend
but girlfriends do have me.
I am looking truly manly
but who is going to see.

I do not have a job
but the jobs have me.
I do not have money
but she has me too.

Honey pass the sugar please
for it's not meant to be.
I am like a stooped hunter
fired by my curiosity.

What flame can set me off
which mischiefs get me cuffed.
I am not above a law
but no law puts its claws
on me
before mowing the lawn.

It's like the ancient poetry
that tells us about mystery
that fabled ancient history
which drags me out of misery.

For I am to bad a lad
no companion will hold on
I first have to befriend myself
before I can take from the shelf
-thus never belonged to me-
that which, which never longed to be
that's trying to be company.

That is why no child have I
and no bird in the sky
or walking on this ground
-God heeds me from my speed-
can wake this child inside
that is trying wildly
… just to be a man
"who" stopped to multiply!
