For Quixotic Friends Who Defend Windmills

Rating: 5.0

(thanks to Martin Winter for posting an exchange between two women poets about why they write)
... ... ... ...
Faith in the 'day to come' powers writing;
writing is an exercise of faith,
and together they make a windmill.
The other shoe is true blue
and eventually it will drop.
One who is born with a counter-materialist streak,
will feel a nagging urge to say things
that may sound like a fussy hen
in other people's ears.
But writing is also a sleek boat:
it demonstrates the fun
of running before imaginary winds
or clowning to get through doldrums.
As Martin Winter wrote in his poem POESIE,
'you forget conditions for a few minutes
for a few hours
& it's worth it'

...yes, maybe worth it
if there is a whole shadow enterprise
of 'forgetting conditions, ' and
if a few minutes of being 'worth it' here
overlap with a few hours there,
so there is a whole collective corpus
of forgetting in order to remember.
It may be big and disjointed and elusive,
but there are moments when a person
catches a vibe of that ethereal physiology...
One will resonate to them from then on,
standing firm before those gossamer vanes
with the lance of your pen in hand...

This writing can be extended
to make decorative calligraphy on bones
or any other hospitable medium.
