Forever Is Not So Long Poem by Alice Noct

“Friends forever we shall be,
“For all of eternity! ”
But forever is not so long
Contradicting the long sung song

I’ve had friends
I’ve lost them.
They move,
They change,
I change.
But we always said
“Friends Forever! ”

But forever is not so long.
Still contradicting that long sung song.

I hold onto my new friend,
And I’ve held onto my old
But throughout the years
I’ve had less and less to hold.

I contradict that long sung song!
Forever is not so long.

Anyone who has touched my heart,
Or hurt it,
And leaves
Takes a piece.

“A piece of what? ”
You ask.
“What could be so important? ”
A piece of my heart…
Hurting me inside.

Those pieces will either die,
Or live.
Or be hurt,
And afraid to fly.

I’ve had many live,
And so many more die.
And few of those hurt ones are healing.
Only to live for forever.
But not that long.

“We can still be friends! ” He says
Unaware to the fact,
I’ve dropped the phone,
Face in my hands,
Tears,
Making my hands feel of sand.

I hang up the phone,
Saying that I have to go.
Falling over,
Crying.

Tears that are saying,
“Now you know not to hope,
Forever is not so long.”

“What about those promises? ”
“What about those words? ”
“What about all the things we said? ”
Answerless questions say running through my head.

I will shout my contradiction to that long sung song!
Forever is not so long.

Why should I lose friends, because of that one?
They say they won’t leave.
But they’re drifting away,
Farther, and Farther…

I shout to the heavens the long sung song now that I know
Forever is never that long.

So don’t whittle your time with your friends
Make memories to last.
But remember one thing,

Forever
Is
Never
So
Long.
