Long night highway
in the pouring rain,
I try not to crash and disintegrate
despite lingering tears in my eyes
no longer possible to tolerate.
The air is wet and cold,
every road sign is blurred,
ambulances fly by like midnight bats
but nothing is heard
but a desperate heartbeat.
A restless gun
in the passenger seat,
a trigger finger that fills like lead
grasps for relief.
Not many days
down the bleak corridors
of a disappointing future,
I'll bury a thousand poems
in a nondescript grave.
One can search for hope
castaway decades ago
in the forgotten touch of a kiss
but no lipstick traces or imprints remain
even in the mind.
I never thought
I'd spend so much time
searching for something I left behind.

A very deep and poignant write touching on the emotion of love. Reminiscing about a feeling that once was and trying to recapture the past. Very good.
