Fox Haiku Poem by Dónall Dempsey

Fox Haiku

the shot fox
oblivious to death
the pain of living

the shot fox
no longer hears
the chit chat of chickens

the shot fox
sways in the wind
a reminder to its kind

the shot fox
flies buzz around its eyes
seeing everything...nothing

the shot fox
looks unseeing
at its own blood

the shot fox
grins at Death
its cubs restless

the shot fox
the small boy
staring at each other

my uncle's gun
proud of its killing
gleams in the sun

my uncle's gun
asleep now
by a milk chun

the dead fox
its eyes
haunt my living
