Free Spirit Poem by Sandra Feldman

Free Spirit

Long live the free Spirit of Poetry,
Songs that were sung and those that will be,
Long live the Spirit of Immortality,
That each poem carries, sincerely.

Let language bloom like a Rose,
Each verse open, not closed,
Bringing perfume and color,
And images huge, like a deluge,
That no prose can ever impose.

Poetry of language is King,
For the spirit and mind, an opening,
To the Mysteries of thought,
And maybe the key to Paradise Lost.

YES! I want to believe that too - that poetry may be the key to Paradise Regained. Not many people read Milton's PARADISE LOST - I've read it four times, and find it uplifting - I don't believe in Milton's god who is remote and unbending, but I believe in Milton's poetry which is intimate and grand. Each of us has to find that poet/poem that for them provides the KEY that they can use again and again to open the doors of perception. Then we'll have a really BIG PARTY and celebrate our victories!
