I let him go, and set him free
He chose his animosity
This gift of love and freedom shared
Was met with petulant, twitching glares
I loved a void, a parasite
Who could not *live* by it's own right
Who could not *love*, from the inside out
Self worth was always cast in doubt
Arid as his heart could be
And deaf within his listening
The pleas at end were all for naught
Nothing lingered that I'd taught
For years on end I'd loved a man
Who's very heart *he'd* not withstand
Freedom shared could not be known
And so, today, my path I've sewn
