Friend, A Third Hand Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

Friend, A Third Hand

Rating: 4.7

Was told: true friend is man's third hand,
And I set out in search of third hand.

To peacocks, hills are never far,
Nor yet rain-carrying clouds are;
To white lilies sun is not far,
Which, when rises all smile they are;
To blue lilies moon is not far
Being their life's sole smiling star;
If whoso be whose friend's not far,
Why should mine elude me so far?

Anyone be anyone's friend,
Just stretch a ready and keen hand.

Love conquers love and friendship is responded by friendship. India and Pakistan have common culture and they should be good friends but for that Pakistan will have to admit that Muslim imperialism was unjust and India will have to understand that those were the days of imperialism, anyone who got power became an imperialist. It's futile preen the old wounds, We both can gain a lot from friendship, we can reduce our defense budget and earn profits from mutual trading.

Well, well, well, I never thought this little poem will be taken so seriously. Yes, what you say is right. This poem says, a friend could be one's third hand. Why third, Pakistan could even be the other hand, and so India for it. But when someone does not consider its neighbour as a friend but foe, .... very little is possible, unfortunate as it is.

Shrinking of diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan and without going as to who is responsible for it one may avoid a war that may be changed in first ever Nuclear war. May be its chances only per cent but can we ignore this one per cent?

Kasmir may be a federation with no army. It may be divided in three states, Pakistani Kashmir, Indian Kashmir and Jammu. The Indian rulers may convince their people that they ultimately made the Akhand Bharat and Pakistani rulers may convince their people that the ultimately liberated Kashmir from India.

Kashmir is the obstacle in the way of Indo-Pak friendship. One may not agree but a confederation of India, Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir is the only solution of this dispute. Common defense, common currency and common foreign affairs for the confederation and the rest for the federations.
