Friend's Illness Poem by Midifo Yearns

Friend's Illness

The word is spoken, silence locks.
Is death betoken as fear knocks
on door of heart that loved so deep
to God whose gift is now so steep
to climb and trust him still
despite the signs of painful will?

Can gift unwrapped new treasure show
and life with Life begin to flow
so that the pain and fear become
that part of song that people hum
when words no longer find the way
for depth of love and thanks to say.

For oneness is the goal of life
and every aspect of our strife
is just a marker on the way
to find our home and there to stay.

And so what seems like death today
and brings us to our knees to pray
is but an ancient door that opens cue
to life that is both fresh and true.

And this the miracle of love divine
that changes water into wine
and makes the cross a sign of grace
and opens up a glorious space
in which to be forever blest
and in God’s wisdom to find rest.
