Friendship Poem by David Smart

Friendship

Rating: 5.0

'Tis many long years since a'trav'ling I went
My boots became worn and my clothing was rent
And I knew not the reason why I should be sent.

Through sunshine and shower I trudged mile on mile
And wherever I wandered I gave folks a smile
And friendship I had when I stayed for a while.

Over valley and hillside I walked night and day
I'd go where I pleased, if I wanted I'd stay
And when I was ready I'd go on my way.

The day came at last when my wand'ring was done.
I turned my feet homeward.I'd followed the sun
Until its last setting, its last day had run.

And now I'm at home amongst those I love best
My wand'ring is over.I know life's a jest
But I'm happier now and I'm ready to rest.

I didn't learn much in my wand'ring around.
I saw lots of people and I heard the sound
Of happiness everywhere, echoing round.

My time was not wasted. My wandering shows
That friendship when offered is taken by those
Who need it, and always, that true friendship grows.
