From Under The Big Top Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

From Under The Big Top

A loyalty to maintain obtained.
Can become incredibly difficult,
To remain sustained that way.
In times when loyalty to have and give,
Becomes ignored to show it annoys...
Another in a position.
Displaying publicly ego and their arrogance.
That even a clown running around,
Wanting no one frowning.
Begins to realize from under the big top.
It is the master of ceremonies,
Enticing the crowd to throw bricks and rocks.
And whatever it is they have got.
At a clown clinging onto the leg,
Of the master of ceremonies to beg.
For clemency.
Or some sign of empathy.
Without pretending not to see or know,
What is going on.
To have others perceive the act,
As just another clown attempting to distract.
With wishes to portray,
Being betrayed and victimized.
To do to make serious,
How stupid one who expresses...
This kind of loyalty can get.
When it is really the attention,
A devoted clown wishes.
