From Where I Was Born And Raised Poem by Francis Duggan

From Where I Was Born And Raised

From where I was born and raised I may live far away
But in memory I walk in the old fields today
And the chatter of the magpie in the freshening breeze
Comes floating to me from the high woodland trees.

The hawthorns are laden in their blossoms as white as snow
And on a rock in the river around where the rapids flow
With snowy white breast and mostly darkish brown
The dipper he sings as his head bobs up and down.

From here I could not reach my old Hometown by car
And the old hill I loved in distance is very far
But I can go there each time I visualize
And I can hear the birds sing in the wood at sunrise.

From where I was born and raised I have travelled far south
Where in a Finnow river pool the wary brown trout
In the cool of an early June evening are jumping for flies
A sight I can witness each time I visualize.
