Garland In My Cupboard Poem by Bishnupada Sethi

Garland In My Cupboard

I was just thinking about you-
Unmindful while walking in the garden.
The fragrance of jasmine awakened me
As if someone poured over a bucketful of dew.
I felt very cool and fresh
All over my body and mind.

I was drawn back to those days
You weren't in my life then
Yet certain closeness was developing.
So many random words
Sweet sensations, dreams and plans
Flew in the air
Filling every space of daily chores.

Each of the days in waiting
Passed like a year.
It's simply not a pain
Of not being with you
But a feeling of how our coming together
New excitement and great happiness
Kept the division between days and nights away.

Golden moments and cherished events
Came with the blessings from all over.
We became one and felt like as if-
We had been separated earlier
To be reunited again.

Each of your temporary absences
Gave immense pain.
Nothing was pleasant on earth,
Sleep and easiness eluded
When you were not there.

I laugh at many of our stupidities
Including when the cop'd reprimand
For certain innocent public acts
And things others didn't like.
Certain craziness for you kept me alive
Through the thick and thin of tumultuous life.

I must admit-
Though everything didn't come
As a blessing to our lives,
Yet I recount all the beautiful moments,
Each of those a jasmine flower that you like,
I am making a beautiful garland
And hiding in my cupboard
With a request if you could
Place on me
While I take up the life's last journey.
