Geese Poem by Oge Nwankwo

Geese

Never have I seen such elegance
Like a ladder softly laid against the side of a skyscraper
My eyes climb their way up to Their glossy eyes
Eyes that burn into the skies with unwavering pride
Hypnotizing..
Involuntarily, I suck in a little air
Never before have I seen such elegance

Draped in heavenly white
There is not one freckle on this angelic uniform
And everyone around
Is charged to be still… arrested
Afraid that if we blink too loud
It might blow away this vision
Sublime…

Subconsciously, I finally exhale
Grace has never been so personified
They float to the other side of the road
Slowly...
Methodically...
Unaffected by the rows of cars that await
Not one step of theirs is quickened

Mother Goose stops and
Glances back at her Goslings
They are all following
Gliding along…

Satisfied
She swings her head back on destination
Her hips are swinging as well
The Goslings follow…
Not once did they miss a beat
