Getting To Know You Poem by Daniel Peter Jones

Getting To Know You

You recite emotions
As if practiced and told,
You feel the you within
Imitating the slow

You laugh and I see
Micro emotions, flickering
At each end of your lips

As if each curve and tip
Points to doubts untold

And as eye lids flicker;
Nervous flames, I watch
Fidgeting fingers and
Magnified shame

But your human, although
Maybe you can't see
Through this veil of in confidence
You try not to be

You'll learn as I learnt once
That happiness isn't free

You must lose everything
Before the real you
Manifests in
Me
