Here's a New Year's memory for you. Maybe you have one too.
I have done some pretty silly things in my life to make a few memories, especially with my children.
For example, I could not wait until all my little grandkids were old enough to stay away from home from their parents.
The time had come. I had thought about this special time for several weeks. The date had been planned with the kids; we would have a grandchildren's sleepover after New Year's. It was going to be a blast!
My wife said, 'Honey, I'm not sure about this.' I convinced her that everything would be fine. The sleepover invitation had been extended to all my grandchildren. The older kids bailed on me. Katherine, Kristy, and Kasady had to work. Sadie was visiting others. Cayce came and stayed for a couple of hours then left to pursue other interests. Dawson came and made it for a little while, grew tired, and then he left as well.
This left us with our newest and youngest, Kaitlin. She stayed with us while her parents went out to eat. Then we had Kaden, my great-grandson, Kaleb my grandson, my granddaughter Sarah her sister Karrterisa.
They started arriving around 5: 45, the parents brought in their things, got them settled down, and said their 'goodbyes' and then they took off around 6: 15 for an evening out.
That is when all the fun started! I am telling you; I made some funny noises and told some dumb jokes. Then we got going with a little tickling, and roughhousing; then hide and seek, drawing pictures. Next, I gave them all a small flashlight and we went for a hike in the dark. They thought it fun to run off and leave me, so after chasing them up and down the road and all around the house, I finally gathered them back inside the house. The distance I ran at the point had been about two miles, chasing kids in every direction; I was plumb tuckered out.
When we all got safely back inside, I collapsed on the living room floor.
Getting my breath, I looked around at my sweet wife Kathy who was sitting on the sofa. She smiled, and I indicated to her, 'I was already exhausted; surely the kids would be as well, hopefully, bedtime was near.
Then I turned and looked at the clock, to my great dismay and unbelief it showed only 7: 15.
Shocked, I said to my wife, 'Has it only been an hour? '
'Yep, ' she responded. Then she laughed as if to say, 'I told you so.'
I will not bore you with all that took place, but Kathy's own words summed up our experience, 'Honey, we're getting too old for this! '
She was right, but what a night.
We had a ball, tiredness and all!
We made memories on that New Year's weekend.
