Ghost Poem by Rachel Brewer

Ghost

I saw you there standing in my doorway,
I couldn’t believe my eyes.
You were so beautiful and calm,
It was such a nice surprise.

I knew you were gone,
But I didn’t want it to be true.
I wanted us back for ever,
I wanted to be with you.

Your skin was glowing,
And you were so pale and white.
You are dead I know,
That’s why you were glowing in the night.

You lifted a hand,
And waved a silent goodbye.
Your beautiful smile,
Nearly made me cry.

Then you were gone,
Into the dark, cold air,
You were gone,
And I knew it wasn’t fair.

I stood staring at the door,
At the shadow of the one I loved the most.
It was you forever,
You, my ghost.
