Ghosts Of Forty One Poem by G J Salgado

Ghosts Of Forty One

Life isn't a competition so how could you possibly compete with me
I'm nothing like you; I'm not like any of you
You won't find anyone out there even close to me
I'm just gonna sit here a while and enjoy the view
No worries and I'm not here looking at you
The next words out of my mouth won't even be anything about you
You're not that important and besides; this part of my life isn't meant to be about you
I have better; more meaningful things to do
Told my story already so I'm not talking
You don't have anything on me so I'm walking

People love it when you're rich
I bait them in before I hit the switch
I'll be Hank Voight's Lil snitch
Move me upstairs to Intelligence
Scratch the team's itch
Be the apple of their eye
Bake 'em a pecan pie
Look the P. O. I. in the eye
Watch him fall on his face
I'm packin more than mace
Let me run the plates
I got 48 hrs to solve this case
See me bangin on this bass
Give you a lick; just a taste

I go by my own instincts
You can see me at my precinct
Catch me at the 21st District
The 2-1 family is my Unit

I'm on this side of the law
You're on the outside; it's your flaw
My blood doesn't run that way
I'm a beast that runs away
Into the wind but a beast doesn't always have to get revenge
It's the beaten dog who will always remember and it's prey never forgets
As the cur is bred from the wild earth
Its heart beat becomes the earth
The veins embedded within the dirt
The same ground I've always known
That's never dead or ever alone
You showed me what it was like Inside your own world
Now I'm gonna let you see mine
When I came into the world I blew in like dust in the wind
When I leave this world I'll return to dust again
Then I'll be back again

I hope you're ready for it
Maybe you'll be good for it
If my heart was ever ripped; you tore it
You tore out my soul then you wore it

But you couldn't keep me from crawling back into your skin
That's that creepy feeling you felt as soon as I came in
I clawed my way back in again
I'm no longer you within

I was created inside of you
I no longer need my burden of proof
It's yourself in me that's no longer you
It's your turn to tell nothing but the truth

Then the jury enters but they never came
Yet they knew you by first and last name
Left with nothing but lies; without shame
Not my fault but who you gonna blame

Now they all know what you've done
The DNA reveals it's your only son
Your life sentence hasn't yet begun
Until the ghosts that are innocent remain forty one
