Giraffe Tail Poem by Ima Ryma

Giraffe Tail

Rating: 2.5

With a young girl, in love I fell,
And wanted to ask for her hand.
And I knew the tradition well.
Her father would want a gift grand.
The grandest gift I knew would be
The status symbol of a tail,
Taken from a giraffe by me.
With such a gift I would not fail.
And so I ventured forth and found
A giraffe with a tail so fine.
Struck, the giraffe dropped to the ground.
I cut off the tail - it was mine.

It was well worth the giraffe's life.
It's tail secured my future wife.
