Girl You Are Tiresome Poem by Thabani Khumalo

Girl You Are Tiresome

Girl you are tiresome indeed,
mama told me to not play with you.
So I will walk all the way down that distance
and play with the other boys because they are strong.
Is it really that silly
now that I am really laughing at you,
the powers of life we can't control?

The half side of a girl`s heart
when it beats to the sound of the mind of one
may waken the other half and make it seem like it is beating two.
I look around and see the good things I see,
the beauty of the world and the breezes in between -
Since there are no two views that stand the same,
there shouldn't be all this rough competition -
if mama has never admitted to any girl being right,
whose counsel should I consider to tell me otherwise
and act clearly sassy against my mom,
for I am too a child of a lovely mother?

I hold some girl in my hands and rest for a while,
while a girl believes that we are one in love,
but my dead heart yondas the city and its toxic fumes.
I can not sit around and look to the sky for the superstitious magic
under the blue star like I am some girl.

My mother taught me when I was two,
how to beat a girl and quickly make her cry.
Now that I have learned how to kill from the slaughter,
I think I have also come to know how to murder her.
