Glazneh Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Glazneh

Glazneh

Then, when I, was a child
Of nature, our mother
Was rich and generous;
Our parents lived a life
With more peace,
Care and love,
And of course,
They worked hard,
Very hard
In gardens and our farms.

We kept some animals
To help and supply us.

We, too, were thankful for
Good gifts of the skies
Like cold, warmth
With snow and the sun
And showers, thunder, light.

Mother Earth and Heavens
Joined hands, built a nature
Filled with the gentle sites
Of green, flowers,
And insects that flew;
Crawled like chandeliers.

Our goats, sheep, gave us milk
At first, much but decreased
Through time, less to least.

Mom and aunt, all neighbours
Gave and took, were friends
Shared little milk that had
Barter deals were social.

In gardens, the trees
Were many and varied
In bearing children;
Gave almonds, apricots
To apples and walnuts.

Pears, peaches and grapes
Sat in sun to ripen
With their musk, appeared
To dance and celebrate
In wedding anniversary;
Well-dressed, glowing
Like women, girls, angels.

Some dropped, unconscious
Some plucked, invited
Were gathered in baskets
To be saved for winter.

Dad brought straws
Of the wheat from farm,
Mother laid, spread
For fruits she made bed
On which they could be saved.

Women took them later
And acted as tailors
Turned them to rosaries;
Apricots were the beads.

This was called: "Glazneh"
And was saved in corner
Or wall-side; for winter.

Joyfully, with delight
In the cold of outside
We, the young playmates
Or the kids of same age
Munched on the apricots;
Delicious, half-dried.

I don't like system of
"To be used, expires! "
In small cans and cups
On the racks of the shops,
For one and to use once;
Why do we kill the Earth?
Why to be like wild dogs?
