Gloom Tortures Me Poem by Sujoy Bhattacharya

Gloom Tortures Me

Rating: 4.5

It was a hot summer.
I was taking nap at noon after lunch.
A cosy coir - cot in my shade- soothed
courtyard invited me to roll over it
my tormented body to relax!
Blistering Indian summer was frowning at me
with burning eyes emitting hot valour.
The sun overhead was musing meaningfully!
I paid no heed and accepted the coaxing call
of the cot.
Weary eyelids got soon hemmed with sleep.
The mango tree in the western corner of my house
showered windy kindness to strengthen my slumber!
A chunk of floating clouds settled over my house
admonishing the heat - gruelling sun!
I was snorting away the frightened insects
flippantly flying around me.
Suddenly a newborn sparrow dropped down on my bare chest
My disturbed nap opened up my sewed eyes abruptly.
My sloth left hand grabbed the warm birdie - scornfully.
And hurled it on the earthen floor of my courtyard.
A vigilantly watchful cat at once sprang on the prey and
feasted on with faminish hunger.
I went again to rest on the lap of nap! .
After three years my only son - a teenage kid
went to live permanently in the dormitory of death! .
Now I relate that incident as the cause of my son.
I lament with my limping conscience!
