Gloria Conquers Death Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Gloria Conquers Death

When rose and jasmine fade before the sunset
how you smile dear Gloria when the stark Death scares!
Thinking about your short life makes me sad
and on the fleeting human life, I meditate.
From Cote D'ivoire to Tamil Nadu in India
how much distance has shrunk to some seconds
for the e-mails to reach and your virtues to preach!
Boundless is your love to me and soundless seems
your waning breath! All those known far and near
love me as a father, a brother or a friend.
Humongous it is to swell and overflow my heart!
No want of love I feel in this birth on earth
and my pastime is to fill all the hearts with mirth.
O, the French Gloria has conquered death
by brushing aside the thoughts of imminent doom.
Pancreatic Cancer, the hidden canker eats up
her digestive system but she wants to see the smiles
on the faces of the widows and the orphans
even at a slough of despair. The twilight of her life
seems to set in but her soul will be immortal
humming prayers to make this world happy.
My Gloria can be seen in my budding lines
which shall live forever and she in them still green.
Her face, her hue and her beauty are all living
records of my mind which has no sleep or rest.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I heard the dying voice from West Africa and her sorrow-laden life moved my heart to scribble these lines.
