Gnomes Find A Home Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Gnomes Find A Home

When I briskly walked to a store nearby.
I had in mind something necessary to buy.
I had one and only one purpose to fulfill.
My destination was the pharmacy for a refill.

As I walked down the aisle, I spotted a sign
Enticingly coaxing me…this could be mine.
Offering a huge discount on selected merchandise.
Oh my goodness, I could hardly believe my eyes…

My arms now are holding newly found treasure.
Little gnomes are grinning broadly with pleasure…
Soon to be companions to my thriving garden plants.
I’ll enjoy them knowing I wasn’t too extravagant.

These red hatted fellows add whimsical color
To a garden that that was formerly much duller.
I wondered, what is their origin? It is a mystery…
I think I will research the gnome’s family history.

They were born from the clay of the earth in Germany.
Their numbers increased during the eighteenth century.
They have special magical abilities and are hard to find.
They captivate imaginations and play tricks on the mind.

Some live in meadows and rescue animals that are hurt.
They’re dwarfs who help oversee plants growing in dirt.
They never eat meat, but they will eat a nuts and berries.
The gnome comes from the same land as fanciful fairies.

When I impulsively bought these fellows, I did not know.
Not only do they decorate, but they also bring good luck.
It remains to be seen if they possess any special powers.
Perhaps they will help shorten my weed pulling hours...
