God Came Poem by Gary James Smith

God Came

God Came

God came in times of old
In answer to men's prayer
When truth sprang forth and spread afar
To reach them everywhere
And the Spirit did its work
In bringing forth conviction of sin
And Godly sorrow wrought repentance
To bring the sinner's on in

Lives were changed no doubt about it
When the truth was realized
Jesus Christ shown forth as Saviour
And a passion for souls did arise
When the thought of the present became eternal
We've a soul that shall never die
There's a day of reckoning that we'll have one day
Making it's heaven's destiny finalized

What joy poured forth from repentant hearts
And hymns were sung as praise
And prayer continually poured forth from the lips
In those whom Christ had saved
And hallelujah's never rang hollow
For truth was its sustenance
The church's one foundation
Had changed men's circumstance

Revive Thy church O Lord again
And turn our hearts to prayer
And cause us Lord to humble ourselves
And turn from our sins despair
For we are a needy people Lord
But You are Almighty God
Touch this world once more by Thy power
So Thy truth may be understood

Hallelujah what a Saviour!
