Golden Rods Poem by Deanna Samuels

Golden Rods

Golden Rods, the crown of late summer
green stems slowly grow amongst
the season's wild blooming flowers
biding their time, awaiting their moment

As the summer weeks wane
Golden Rods gain growth, grow taller
gradually taking over prime spots
from spent and dying plant life

Almost suddenly, Golden Rods
spring into fiery growing speed
becoming taller, broader, stems longer
buds awaken, bursting into bunches

Bunches of small bright yellow scepters
fanning out, overseeing all else
commanding pathways, meadows, roadsides
Golden Rods now dominate the land
