Goodbye To The Old Hill Poem by Francis Duggan

Goodbye To The Old Hill

Goodbye to the old hill of wallaby and roo
And to the familiar call of the weerloo
And farewell to the paddocks so stony and brown
North, south, east and west of the old country town,
Goodbye to the few that i did get to know
A good bond of friendship between us did grow
And like the hill stream to the river that flow
Upon my life's journey i onward must go,
Goodbye to the ancient hill that is as old as time
It has inspired poets to song, poetry and rhyme
The Indigenous people in their Dreamtime danced their corroborees
In Summer by the old hill in the shade of the trees
And though the Indigenous tribes from the brown Countryside gone
The hill old as time it just keeps keeping on.
