Grace Under Pressure Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Grace Under Pressure

Grace!
Under pressure!

Doctors.
Nurses.
And so many nameless,
Supportive 'Angels'.
Rushing to the aid and showing,
Tremendous grace under pressure.
Upfront and close.
In spite of facing a threatening virus.
In spite of the possibility,
Death they too may face.

A stress felt they must all feel.
But little of this is detected.
Not a hint of it addressed to express.

Yet...
Publicly attention is given.
Focused upon those who protest.
Upset.
In ways one day they will regret.
A protesting to sacrifice 'temporarily',
The living of a 'normality'.
A living to protect a kept selfishness.
And things acquired to possess.
More threatening to maintain,
Their inability.
Done to do as they please while pleading,
That the economy and entitlements received...
Be saved.
Allowing their pretensions to keep,
Safe!
Away from destruction.

Prioritized.
Is the emphasis on the need to feed greed.
Prioritized.
Is not a pandemic threatening their lives,
As death awaits.
Caring less about the suffering,
Of an economy.
To have long been on life support.
With those rich and elite,
Standing by with crossed fingers.

Exposing the mindless.
Exposed are those,
Performing unconscious misdeeds.
For who they are.
Descendents distanced,
Of feeling anything for humanity.
Or the ones who feed,
The economy to be the economy it is.
Self importance and delusion,
Fed to feed has done this.
And that's the way it is to have been,
Historically ignored!
