Grandma's Arms Poem by Jim Yerman

Grandma's Arms

I never thought much about Grandma's arms...
until the day they opened wide
and welcomed me into her embrace
on the day that Grandpa died.

"When sadness enters your life, " she said,
as sadness often will...
Unexpected...
uninvited...
and yet, it enters still."

"I will wrap you in my arms
and somehow we will find a way
to blend our sadness together
and wash your tears away."

...I still think about her often...
About her smile...her wit...her charms
And the day she taught me the power of love
rested...in Grandma's arms.
