Grandmothers Poem by John A'Hern

Grandmothers

Grandmother sits in her rocking chair
views of the World much clearer from there
eyes so dim, wiser still
in times gone by decisions made
visits start again now mind is sane
marriage challenges a thing of the past
moved right on from discussions that last
children settled all left home
marriages of their own, cracks sometimes show
manners taught have lasted the tests of time
younger one's at her feet, sometimes
watching from afar, marking the ledger
testing the patience of all around her
older and wiser words are spoken
advice cast aside like sounds of distant thunder
visits become less frequent, lives of their own
this rocking chair resembles a throne
her days have been plentiful
love abounded each day
she is prepared to go on her way
when her name is called, she will rise on her own
will she be missed? for a short time who knows
the rocking chair empty with a life of its own
if you watch carefully it moves for sure.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Watching a Grandmother sitting observing her adult children and their children, her Grand children. Visits are decreasing she knows the score. Wise advice not always listened to, at least she tried.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Too many people neglect the wise advice that grandparents can give. Talk to your grandparents while you still can. They have much to teach us. I only met two of my four grandparents. Some day I will meet the other two.
