Grieving Grace Poem by Gary James Smith

Grieving Grace

Grieving Grace

When we experience the death of a loved one
We're subjected to a new level of pain
It is only through the grace of God
Where His healing balm helps to sustain
Then memories come along for a visit
The things we wished we would have done
The leaving off of letters and phone calls
We know this happens to everyone

I wish I would have done this
I wish I would have done that
I wish I'd said "I love you" more
Isn't that just a truthful fact
For death can come so
unexpectantly
So suddenly and really surprise us
Then the adjustment to recoup our sanity
Which definitely, is mostly outside
of us

I thank the Lord for grieving grace
For He alone, can heal the heart
He Himself knows that deepest of wounds
O God how great Thou art
You went ahead to pave the way
From the Cross to the empty tomb
Friend make sure your transition is secured
At the foot of the Cross there's still room...

Hallelujah what a Saviour!
