A conscience would nullify the objective process.

Which is why it is important to make a moral decision about what scientific processes to get involved in. Science has been practiced in death camps and used in the invention of deadly weapons. I don't think in good conscience I could be involved in either. Also, a conscience is needed in the correct application of the scientific results obtained. Science has no conscience because it is not a moral entity in and of itself. It is a method of inquiry.
